ABOUT «OIL AND GAS LOGISTICS IN RUSSIA»
Logistics has come to play a major role in the activities of any company, be it a product manufacturer or services provider. Until recently, this concept was unknown to the business world, but with the development of global services, international organizations have established themselves in Russia, swiftly implementing logistics into their day-to-day business operations. Many Russian businesses have started forming their own logistics departments, while demand for logistics specialists has rocketed.
A knowledge of logistics and an awareness of international practices are now crucial when developing retail outlets, megastores and distribution centers, and have enabled companies to use key flow diagrams that track the movement of goods from producer to consumer within their operations. Many Russian companies have started restructuring their operations with a view to adopting cutting-edge international practices within their organization. The formation of this new business vector in Russia has given huge impetus to the development of logistics, both as a science and an industry.
Logistics as a scientific discipline is developing fast, with new ideas and strategies increasingly being adopted within businesses. Logistics has taken on increased importance in the oil industry, with many procurement services having established logistics departments to strengthen their capacity. Gradually, logistics has become one of the key strategic thrusts for companies to ensure efficient production, movement of goods and reductions in production costs. Company executives are now paying serious attention to the work of their logistics departments. Huge funds have been invested in information technologies so as to swiftly resolve issues linked to the delivery of supplies and equipment to oil and gas fields. Practically all oil and gas organizations or companies have logistics divisions, departments or specialists dedicated to these activities. However, there is still a real lack of information on logistics in the oil and gas industry.
This book sets out to give an overview of modern logistics in the oil and gas industry in Russia. Logistics in the oil and gas industry has its own specific features and covers a wide array of services. Above all, it entails a high level of contractor responsibility when delivering logistics and environmental protection services.
This book is not a textbook but a down-to-earth presentation of the topic based on the over 20 years of experience gained by its author working with oil and logistics companies on the Russian and CIS markets. The book may be of interest to both newcomers to the subject and seasoned professionals, as well as managers and logistics directors in companies operating in the oil and gas industry.
